Factory data says the push rod extends from 8mm (lowest) to 13mm (highest) from the face of the intermediate flange, having earlier described the stroke as 4mm (hmm!). The gauge VW 97/2 holds the pump rocker 13mm inwards from the pump base. I guess with the gasket in place, the maximum height of the pushrod would only be about 12.5mm (0.5" - so your US info is OK, Russ!) above the base of the pump. It also states VW6 (Type 3) pump delivery at 3,800 rpm is a minimum of 400 cc/min at 5 psi max (or 3.5 mWS - what pressure units are those?). The data for VW7 pump (Type 1) is 3.5 psi and 400cc/min at 3,400 rpm and VW3 pump (Type 2) at 3,800 rpm is also 3.5 psi at 400 cc/min. Oh, and the instructions for removing a Type 4 (carbed) fuel pump start "1) Remove engine...", so thank your lucky stars that VW didn't have that aberration earlier in its history! Mind you, I've not yet had to remove my Type 3 ones either, just ones in upright engines. Dave.
