Great story!!
Growing up in NH I remember a couple times where we
just slowly crawled up a hill while other cars
(usually much larger american models) were in the
ditches or had decided to wait for the plows.
Our "driveway" was a mile long dirt road that was a
series of very large hills up and down. The only
neighbor, who lived about 1/2 mile in, saw us go down
the first hill and around the corner and apparently
decided to try it... After all, if a little VW could
make it, so could he. I forget what car he was driving
(like an early 70s Pontiac Bonneville?), but I
certainly remember the absolutely gigantic front
chromed grille when we started digging him out on the
first uphill because my dad had waited, realizing he
was probably not going to make it to his house.
I recall he walked in and out anytime we got a major
snow after that (while we drove in and out).
