Could you tell where the blue light was coming from? Somewhere inside the 
generator? The open circuit, full fielding test should only be done briefly, 
but an arc like this would not normally be the result. If you could pinpoint 
the source, you might well locate the problem.

While alternator systems require a functioning idiot light to work, this is not 
true for generator systems. A generator idiot light system works by placing a 
bulb between the battery 12V and the generator output. The bulb stays dark as 
long as the voltages on both sides of it are the same.
