The Bentley has shows how the drive gear is supposed to fit. If this has happened, you might not have really set the engine to #1 firing position (depending on the method you used to set the engine). Set the engine using a wooden dowel in the #1 spark plug hole, as described in Muir. If the drive gear turns out to be put in wrong, this is the first thing to correct.
