OK, here's to all the geeks out there... I found the data I took on five different diaphragm springs. Unfortunately I didn't write down the wire gages, but the difference was like .010" (.25mm). Free length was 1.25" (31.8mm). I will look at my old used one when I get home tonight. These numbers actually make sense, considering the diaphragm is a little over 1 square inch. Small gage #1, NOS: @~1" = 2.2 lbf, @.81"= 4.1 lbf ===> spring rate 9.3 lb/in Small gage #2, NOS: @~1" = 2.3 lbf, @.81"= 4.1 lbf ===> spring rate 9.3 lb/in Large gage #1, NOS EFFBE brand @~1" = 2.7 lbf, @.81"= 6.1 lbf ===> spring rate 13.9 lb/in Large gage #2, NOS EFFBE/APL brand for pre-'66 single top bolt style pump: @~1" = 3.3 lbf, @.81"= 6.7 lbf ===> spring rate 15.2 lb/in Large gage #3, used (my old diaphragm that developed 4.5 psi prior to removal) @~1" = ?? lbf, @.81"= 5.9lbf ===> spring rate 13.4 lb/in Peter Parker ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
