Well, I think I've made some progress, although accidental. I haven't been able to test the voltage yet, but heres where it stands now:

I replaced the ground connection to the left of the case center, it seemed looser than I'd like, and I tightened the passenger side intake manifold a little before I ran out of daylight.

It seems about 50% better. No smoke, it started easier than normal, but still has the miss and idles rougher than I'd like.

I'm not sure the word "miss" actually describes it well enough. It gets plenty of power, but feels like I have to get the rpm's up higher than normal to get that power and it vibrates harder than normal. For example: normally I'd cruise at 40 mph in fourth just fine. Now I cruising in 40 in 3rd, and shifting to 4th at 45.

I think I'm on the right track, but all ideas welcome.
