Jacks vary in how close you can get to the floor, you'll probably need a little more if you're working on an uneven surface, etc. In principle, measure from the bottom of the case to the tops of the carbs without the air cleaner, then add the practical minimum height of your jack or engine trolley with the engine on it. That's how high the rear apron has to be. I've always been able to make this happen with standard jackstands, solidly on the floor, supporting the rear torsion tube, and front wheels on the floor and chocked.
