The car will run just fine no matter how the dist and drive gear are installed AS LONG AS the SP wires are installed in the right places. The right places are those places which send spark at the right time for that cylinder, NOT the places that are marked on the dist. If the dist is installed wrong you have to ignore the markings on the dist. They have become meaningless. Likewise if you have a beetle dist in there (including the 009.) You need to determine when #1 is at TDC with both valves closed, and then look to see where the dist rotor is pointing. THAT is your #1 SP position. Wire it up. Then wire up the others in the order 1432 CW around the dist cap. These are all good reasons to get the dist drive gear installed in the correct type 3 position and to use a type 3 dist. As far as backwards and forwards go, you can do it either way. You just have to understand what you're doing so that you're adjusting each cylinder when it is in its firing position. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
