There are 2 spring clips at the bottom which MUST be slipped over the lower edge of the hole first. It > almost looks like it was thrown out of the generator. There is a drain hole at the bottom of the fan housing. It is located right at the seam between the halves. Clean it out so that accumulated rain can get out of there. A pool of water here will be blown all thru the cooling system, including over the spark plugs and thru the generator, as soon as you start the engine.
