John, a 009 will work in a type3. I have 2 type3s with an 009 in them, and I 
really don't notice the dreaded 009 flat spot like I did with my bug. The 
only thing you need to be aware of with the 009 in a T-3 is the condenser 
location sometimes gets in the way to clear the cooling tin. You can fake 
this by moving the plug wires to a different location, and rotating the dizzy 
to work in this new spot. I hope this helps.
