I'll have to second Toby on swimming at Oregon beaches. The water is very cold. That said, I used to swim on the beach at Winchester Bay all the time growing up. We lived about 60 miles from there and would go over about twice a month in the summer. There is a little campground (I think it's called 'Windy Cove') at the beach. Another great thing about that spot is you have some major sand dunes there also. There is a large selection of charter boats in case you want to go out fishing also. It's a fun beach, lots of driftwood to find, occasional Japanese glass floats and fun hiking. Go up the coast a bit to Heceta Head light house for a cool beach also. The Umpqua light house is right there at Winchester Bay. Sea Lion caves makes for a cool visit also. The best stretch of beach is from around Florence to North Bend. Have fun camping there. I am in Calgary and My Wife and I want to drive my 69 Fastback Auto FI to the Oregon Coast and do some camping in August. I know many of you are in the NW. Does any one have any idea where it would be good to camp. We are looking for some nice swimming beaches. Also, with the lack of parts for my Car around here, I would like to do some trips to wreckers and parts people on the trip. I have looked at a trip down through Spokane/ Bend/ Coos Bay/ Lincoln/ Seaside/ and back through Yakima. Any Thoughts from any one?
