I close look at this picture shows that 'VDO' on the
face is hidden by the trim ring.  this would support
Keiths theory above, I would say.

Actually what Keith was saying reminded me of this
one.  It sold for $214 (crazy money ?), and was listed
as a new reproduction to 'look like' the old style and
it does not even say VDO on the face.  Would VDO leave
that off so to say to everyone 'this is a repo'???
