I've never had a generator fail on me (oops, that's asking for trouble), but total mileages over here tend to be lower than in the USA, and I've no fancy electrical gadgets such as a radio (let alone a stereo one!). I don't know if the Type 3s I've bought secondhand have had generators replaced, but if not I've increased them by about 50,000 miles each time without problems apart from a new regulator in two of my T3s at about 80,000 miles.
