Your type 3 really doesn't have any bushings like your other car. Shimmy problems in type 3s are almost always due either to a worn out steering damper, or, more likely, a loose fixing bolt for the sway bar (the upper torsion bar in the front axle beam.) Read your Bentley front end chapter, then jack up the car and tighten the set screw that holds the UL swing arm to the upper torsion bar. Then check the play. You may need to adjust the play, but you must FIRST make sure the set screw on the left side is tight. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
