I've often wondered how long it would take to make > up the total energy costs if I bought a new car with better gas mileage, > compared to just keeping my older type 3 that gets poorer mileage. > I saw a figure of 40% of the (CO2 ?) emissions a car produces in its life are from its production. That might help your calculations. I don't know the latest on the levels of particulates emissions but our modern TDi (diesel) Golf Variant (Wagon)does around 53 mpUKg (44 mpUSg) with better acceleration and top speed than the Type 3 Variant. So how come I still prefer driving the Type 3 Variant? Dave.
