You might want to ask that question on the "Mechanical Tech" forum on VolksZone Interactive (www.volkszone.com/VZi) there's not that many type 3 owners on there, but plenty that know a LOT about building HOT VW's. Most of the UK VWDRC drivers are on there in some way or another.
