I stopped by The Buslab (thebuslab.com) to order some wheel
cylinders today. I first heard about them only recently, but it turns out
I've been passing within like half a block of them daily for... years?
right here in Berkeley, CA. They're primarily a Bus shop, but I got a
good recommendation for them from a Beetle owner, and their Web site says
they sell parts.
They got on the Web to order a set ("Should be here in a couple
of hours, that ok?"). Brazillian @ $10ea., but they guy says "I won't
sell you Brazillian ones." Gets on the phone... and finds German ones for
$70ea. I agree to buy three Brazillians so that I have a spare (are they
really that bad?) and should be able to pick them up today.
Now, as far as pricing goes... one shop I'd called had Brazillians
for $15ea and Germans for $50. Buslab can get me Br @$10 and Gr @70.
Buggy House in Hayward found a set (don't know the origin) for $20ea.
Meanwhile, Buslab quoted me $60(!) for a thermostat. I passed.
Weird...
