Are you sure they are Torx? I thought Torx was a US design and not metric. 
There's a much older metric head that looks like a Torx but it's called an XZN.

I kinda like 'em. They don't strip out, but I hate it when they come in a new 
size that I don't have.

I kinda figured this out on my own. I guess the self tapping thread was there 
to clear the paint out of the welded-on nuts on the cooling tin. 

There are a bunch of these screws that I prefer to replace with 10mm hex heads 
so I can get them off in the future. The hex head means that I can get at them 
either from the side with a box wrench or from overhead with a socket. Either 
way I get a more positive grip than with a screwdriver slot.
