You won't find a correct new one. Work with what you have. To test the vac can, unplug the vacuum hose from the engine. Engine is off. Suck hard on it and plug with your tongue. As long as it holds vacuum and pops back when you release, the vac can is probably OK. To test the mech advance, just rev the engine and see if the timing advances smoothly under a timing light. Should advance about 30 degrees (I forget what this corresponds to in # of teeth on the fan pulley...) If your dizzy needs to be rebuilt, you could send it to Jim. > Could all of my problems with timing, dizzy, idle, etc. be > related to a combination of a faulty dizzy and faulty AAR? Not sure if AAR would produce your symptoms, but timing and dizzy trouble could. Not sure if it's possible for the voltage to go *down* when you rev it. Offhand, I'd say you're either measuring wrong or you *really* need a new voltage regulator. > infinite resistance. You're fine here. -Mark Fuhriman '69 Fastback ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
