A thought I had while thinking about this whole issue: There were only 1044 Type 34s made in the '69 model year. Now, if it was true, as I believe I read somewhere, that the ratio of manuals to automatics was 10:1, then approx 100 of these were automatic. If it was also true that 70 percent of the Type 34s were sold in Germany, then they only exported 30 Type 34 automatic cars during the entire model year!
