I had similar troubles with my MT 71. I found that I could not drive around town at a casual 30 mph in 4th gear. No matter how gentle I tried to be, the drive train would eventually start to lurch back and forth as if, like you said, I didn't know how to use the clutch. Nothing I did cured it completely, but a number of things seemed to help. I went thru the CV joints and cleaned them up, replacing those with lots of backlash. I even swapped balls around among the others to reduce the play. I tried reducing the fuel pressure, but that didn't help. I made sure the throttle valve switch was correctly adjusted and that didn't help. I tried different brains and pressure sensors and that didn't help. I ended up just staying in 3rd gear at that speed. If I had it to do again, I'd try taking Russ's advice and putting the fuel pressure up 1-2 psi. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
