Well unfortunately I had to have a local mechanic do some work on my squareback. He is a great guy, very nice, reasonable prices, I just like to be the guy actually doing the work, but given my schedule these days-I thought I better just have him do it... He replaced my clutch, front engine seal, retorqued the heads, and replaced the distributor in there with the one you rebuilt for me jim, and he also got the exhaust gaskets in there for me. This took a torch and 5 foot cheater bar to get one side off. I took it from him on Saturday-as I needed it today(Sunday). He said it should be fine, but drive it a bit, and bring it back if it needs some adjustment or if there are any problems...this is what is happening-the clutch seems great like it is really grabbing(the other one was soaked in oil, and slipped every now and then). The engine sounds quieter, although at idle it feels like it is thumping a bit...but when driving around it is quieter. But it seems to drive a little kind of herky jerky...not sure how to describe it, almost like I am just driving with a standard for the first time...put I am pretty sure it is not my driving...I am thinking it is either the timing need to be adjusted(I think it is supposed to be o deg BTDC), or maybe the distributor has something wrong with it... The thing is it isn't always herky jerky like that... So I am going to see him tomorrow, and I was wondering where I should be directing him- Thanks for any suggestions... -kevin guarnotta '65 kombi '71 sqbk somerville, ma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
