It should accelerate better than a comparable Fastback or Square, > for starters Why? If it has the same engine and transmission and a heavier body, wouldn't it be slower? Surely the more aerodynamic shape wouldn't make any difference at that kind of speed. I know the Type 34 is heaver than a notch at least, not sure about a fastback or squareback. Is a stock carb engine less powerful than a same-year stock FI engine? After all the experience of all of the AT owners on this list is with FI, so maybe that could make a difference. Thanks to everybody else for the responses. The consensus seems to be that I am getting more or less what I can expect from the engine, possibly barring some minor tweaks. I suspected that momentum is important when going up a hill. Unfortunately in the place where I am driving the car I can't get much. I can't drive it on open highways until I get insurance and at least provisional licensing. I will do this quite soon I hope, because I really need to test the car on proper roads to really see how it goes. At the moment I am just driving it round the block. Even this is not strictly speaking legal, but the chance of me getting into trouble is practically zero. If I were to take it out onto the highway now I could get in deep s**t with the law.
