On the bottom of the sender is a washer 'folded' around a small nut. You
must carefully bend the wash away from the nut and then unscrew the nut.
Replacing is the opposite, bend the washer over the nut to keep it in place.
It may be covered in a black crud an so not be obvious. Be careful not to
rip the washer while bending it.

The tube of the sender then slides off to expose the mechanism. Check out
Dave Hall's site http://www.hallvw.clara.net/fuelsend.htm it has more info
and a diagram.

FI engines will have a place for the temperature sensor. I know that it had
two locations. On the later engines it is screwed into a slot "access hole"
in the tin, just near the manifolds on the drivers side and in the general
vacinity of Number #4 spark plug. If you look just in front of the coil,
between the coil and the manifold. If it is still installed it will have a
wire attached to the top, but probably goes nowhere on your engine. There
is a hole in the tin also. The sensor on the 68-69 engines is, according to
the manual, on "the bottom side of the left cylinder head".
