Well I failed my emission test. It is really frustrating and stressful to know that the state is really trying to get me to get rid of my beloved car. And I am almost there. Here is the history that I know of... 1970 original FI 168k miles (probably) and it leaks and burns oil, so I know it is tired. Last year (the first for the emission test) I resorted to taking it to a Porsche shop after failing 7 times. They said left injector plugs were switched and the TVS needed adjusting. It then passed emissions at an independent test center. I then put the TVS back to where it was cause I didn't like the way the car ran after that. That is why I was needing to adjust it again, I was not aware that it never changed cause the Porsche guys had to adjust it. Now, I have done an oil change (changed from 10-40 to 10-30), checked valves twice, and checked timing and dwell (neither needed to be changed). Next up is spark plugs cap and rotor. Could something like that help me get just under? I passed the idle co% at: 0.33 (5.00 limit), But failed the 2500rpm co% at 5.39 (5.00 limit). Thanks for any help. I was contemplating getting some new brm's for my car, but I may be spending that money on a gti/scirroco nathan http://www.orntar.net/project/vwt3.html 70 fastback ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
