'72 was when the KG got the new Type 3 front bumpers, when VW cut back the end at an angle to clear the KG bodywork. There is a shorter front bumper rubber to coincide with that, in fact it became the same part as the rear rubber from '72 on. We in the UK don't have to worry 'cos the bumper rubbers weren't usually supplied here - we got black PVC tape. At least it's easier to renovate than get a good bumper rubber. Dave.
