I think they were all originally light colored to match the headliner. I don't know about the holes. I'm sure you'll have to drill them, so just mark carefully. As for the light, I'd be tempted to tap into the wire that feeds the license plate light, so that the rear light could only be turned on when the headlights or parking lights are also on. This would limit its usefulness, but it would mean that you were less apt to leave it on accidentally. Otherwise you will have to thread another wire up to the light behind the driver's left ear. There's always power available there.
