If you do one you should do both, just so you know that both are good for the next 65-100kmiles. You don't have to REPLACE them, you can get the ones in there done, and generally the old heads are better than someone else's reject junk heads. I clean them up, replace valve guides and exhaust valves, grind the seats, check the springs, and reassemble. > My jack goes up a little over a foot (jack stands can go higher), but I > don't think that's enough to get the motor out -- the Tom Wilson book > says you need to get the back end of the car three feet in the air? I think you need to get yourself about 20" of clearance under the rear valance to get the engine out. You can measure your engine before you start. Jack at the front of the wishbone, just in front of the AT. Never jack under the engine or tranny. Don't forget to support the rear of the AT before you try to take the engine loose. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
