Well, this is good to know!  My car is '72 so I have the center latch.

Good question.  The problem may not even be an "early or late" issue, just
somewhere down the line they decided to change how the cable is attached to
the rear seat bench.  Looking at mine (what I'll call "late") and the one that
the hinge is designed for (what I'll call "early"), the early anchor is
simpler in design and parts.  I have pictures of the differences that I may be
picking up today so I'll post 'em to my web site and let y'all know when
they're available.
