In most of the VW literature there is a comment under rebuilding hydraulic brake parts about using "Genuine VW Brake Cylinder Paste." The claim is that this will make the cylinders last longer. Presumably this is either a lubricant or something that prevents rust. I bought a tube of this many years ago, but the only thing I can get out of the tube is a med viscosity blue liquid. Some manuals show this material coming in a small can, like a 1 pint paint can. The stuff I have doesn't have the consistency of paste at all. I wonder if there is some part of this "paste" which has settled out in the bottom of the tube where I can't see it. Does anyone else have any experience with this and have any idea what it might actually be? If I just need to mix this up, what does it look like when it's correct? Does it have a shelf life? My best guess is that there is supposed to be very finely powdered Zinc in here, which would act to prevent oxidation of the steel in the same way that Galvanizing does. Anyone have a better guess? -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
