Well I've tried and failed- I was really pinning my hopes on Beru but as usual with a big company, getting non-standard info out of them is not easy. I still didn't hear back from the UK distributors of this stuff yet. Unfortunately most people want 8mm leads which won't fit in the clips, and most garages only have 8mm. So I've still got my fingers crossed for a result. And it should make my engine sound great- full 3d surround effect with no sibilance because of the controlled skin-effect and ultimate dB/watt performance (or so the brochure says) ;-) > > > You might have a point there Jim- perhaps no3 is just much less tolerant of > > thwhile to settle in, or for the gaskets to seal properly. > > I have thicker than average gaskets, which MIGHT help, but I'd be watching for > simple things like a washer on the stud between head and gasket, or a balance > pipe with a loose fitting, or a cracked balance pipe.... > The thing is that in the right circumstances the engine runs really sweet- I don't think it would with a problem like that at all. I've got another new theory though- I reckon this is the best yet! OK I agree that the rings are probably not the issue. I think it is the head to cylinder seal. You remember that I said that the head came loose- like finger tight nuts over a year ago. Well I re-arranged the rings but I didn't lap the cylinder to head joint. I now believe that I'm re-visiting old ground and that the head is working its way loose again- probably brought on by the rough running that its induced! On Friday I will cycle home and then on Saturday I will cycle back, pull off those valve covers, pull off the rockers, oilstone the rocker/valve faces smooth and re-torque the head nuts, then re-set the valve lash accurately. If that doesn't sort it I'll come up with a new theory.
