Do the rings stay in the same place, or do they gradually work round.  I
sometimes get a puff of smoke on start-up for a week or two then it doesn't
smoke for months in exactly similar situation.  I've explained it previously by
suggesting there's an occasional random lining-up of the ring gaps which later
changes and stops that drop of oil getting into the combustion chambers.
