Are the carbs stock Solex?? If they are, there are electric cut off
valves on the idle circuit, that would cause the poor idle.
The power for these valves comes from the hot side of the coil.

What spring is this. There is no spring on the outside of the brake
drum. Unless someone has added something to help stop some brake squeal.
