I borrowed another distributor with Funny you should mention that -- Jim just rebuilt a correct L for my '69, so I put it in this weekend. I pulled out the AB spare that I'd installed at the Parma Motor-Vu drive in. :) The AB had lost the springy response in its mechanical advance. :( I popped out the felt plug, oiled it, and worked it back and forth by hand a bunch. It loosened up nicely. (I then installed the AB as mechanical-only in my Beetle with dual Kads, and it seems to work a bit better than the 009,but that's another story.) So, if you're lucky, you might get the stiff mech. advance to loosen up with lubrication. Jim will know better if such symptoms require a rebuild to fix, but I seem to have done o.k. with my AB that wasn't yet seized. > questionable points, and a good condenser. It installed with no Can you file the questionable points or put a new set in? New Bosch points are about two or three bucks from my local auto parts place. > being pressed down for acceleration. It smokes a bit then when it cuts back in, I know you said you checked the wiring, but I would look *really* hard at the four injector plugs and particularly at the three-connector plug on the trigger points. Broken braided wires, where they go into the tiny metal spade connectors, can cause terrible intermittant problems similar to what you describe. Good luck! -Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
