On a carbed engine you might want to do this with a cold engine where you needed a bit of extra fuel, but you'd generally not want to do this with a warm engine, because it would tend to flood it. What year is your car? Different years have different FI features. If your FI engine has difficulty on a hot restart then there are a number of possible causes. Start your efforts by looking over the engine sometime while it is running to see if you see any fuel hoses with wet areas which would indicate leaks. On a hot restart, try just turning the key ON, wait 2 seconds, turn OFF and back ON, wait 2 seconds, and repeat 10 times. Then try to start. Let us know if this makes it start more easily. Another thing to try would be to just hold the pedal down 3/4 of the way while you crank. Try each of these and let us know which, if any, helps. How long is the engine off when you stop for coffee?
