Wow, I got lots of emails... This car was bought in Germany by an person in the army, and he had it shipped over here, then he sold it to the PO. I bought it from the PO, so this car has had only 2 owners. The engine is in very good condition, it still has fresh oil in it. The PO took this car down to Florida (from Kentucky, over a 1000 mile drive) many times too, with the whole family in the back. The weird this is, even though this car was bought in Germany, it has sealed beams, and has the American brake lights. My dad really wants to replace them with euro brake lights, and I want to put an array of LEDs in it to make it super bright, like newer cars have. Bob: The next thing on the list is the brakes, I will get back once I figure out what needs replacing. When we towed it, I could hear the brakes dragging, so I bet its got some rust. I will try cleaning the fuses next time I go out there to work on it. I know that the rear window seal is still ok, since the only mold and water damage is near the pop out windows. The rest of the area back there is dry. All the seals on the trunks are falling off, so that would properly explain a lot of the rust. What I can get from the PO's neighbor, is that the PO had problems with rust with the old fuel tank (like having to clean out he filters nearly everyday), so he pulled one out of his "parts" gia and put it on top of the old tank. Then he replaced the fuel pump with an electric pump. The car did have fuel injection at first, but he swapped them out for dual carbs (which make it really hard to check the plugs). Karl Yes, we spun the wheels many times, but the engine still wouldn't turn. Thanks for clearing up what the G light was, all I know is that its supposed to turn on with the green light when the key is turned. About the Bentley book, I already have "how to keep your Volkswagen alive" in the mail, but I have yet to get a Bentley. I found one on Amazon for $22 + shipping used, so I might get that one, if nobody wants to sell one for cheaper. Now its Marks turn: Brakes: I don't know much about the emergency brakes, all I know is the brake pedal goes to the floor and the emergency brake barely works, and that's with me pulling on it all the way up. Engine: It's a regular type 3 engine, but the fuel injection was taken off and dual carbs put on. Putting the injection system back on is waaay down the list of things to do.
