Unless you or someone else has gone to a lot of trouble to make a 
conversion, it is an alternator. Generators generally look cylindrical, while 
alternators have a "step" such that they have 2 widely different ODs.

All type 3s came with generators except for a few rather rare Brazilian 
models.
