<x-charset iso-8859-1>I would have to concur with replacing the harness on most cars out there. Unfortunately most of the non-Beetle VW's I have owned have had their harnesses completely butchered. I've had 8 VW Things, countless Type II's, a 412 (God help me) and my Squareback, almost all of them would have benefited from a new harness. The cars that didn't need one were usually one owner rides. I had one Beetle that needed re-wiring, and I have owned over 50 of them. Why the difference? Who knows. While I was GM of the Thing Shop out in AZ I sold quite a few NOS harnesses and some good quality repros. Most folks never had any electrical gremlins after using one. If you have a good wiring diagram and a LOT of time (read: don't rush), I don't think it's that hard.
