Adding lots of shims will also change the burn.  Quenching needs a 
quench area (i.e. what semi-hemi eradicates from stock) AND a tightish 
deck height.  The bonus of quenching tends to fall away after 0.060" 
deck or so, as a rule-of-thumb.
