Re: [T3] Type engine longevity...Shad Laws

<x-charset iso-8859-1>Measure the chamber volume. I like tight decks, if you need CR low, a large
chamber is best, but SH is bad news. I feel strongly that you are better off
with a tight deck and 8:1 then a loose deck and 7:1; the 7:1 engine is more
prone to detonation in this comparison then the 8:1/tight deck engine.

I'm doing a few things that "are impossible", just ask around.

For example: I'm running decks as tight at .030" up to 8000 RPM on my
engines, street and race. I'm also running over 13:1 on pump gas, but that's
another matter entirely (special pistons), and trying to move to more CR as
I push the envelope with these things, I believe 15:1 is achieveable.

With stockish cams and flat top pistons, you can run 7.5-8:1 with a tight
deck and it will run better, and longer, then a low CR loose deck engine.

If you already have the SH heads, run the "deck" as tight as possible to
promote turbulence (that's the problem with the SH design, no squish area).

Berg is a huge propenent of the SH and low CR, and they were an industry
leader for years. :-)

This is a very controversial topic, there are good arguments on both sides,
but you won't find a 2002 car that I'm aware of with 6.5:1 CR!

who do you trust?
