>Why not use new all ALUMINUM block from VW Mexico, really nice pure >aluminum, tap it for full flow be as good as any type 2/4 These cases are imported here from a company called Autolinea based in Brazil. The cases the Mexican VW dealers are selling, is this very same case. These cases are relativly new and several problems have been noted with them such as porosity in the sand casting that, in a few cases (pun intended) has shown oil bleeding from the oil passagways into the interior of the case, predominantly around the lifter bore bosses. Also, there have been machining inaccuracies in areas such as the pressure releif valve bores and the distributor drive bore. While these are easily repairable by a machine shop, I hate the thought of plunking down $300.00 for a case that will need another $100.00 (at least) worth of machine work to be as good as the OEM AS41 case, that is made and sold by VW. Like I said, these problems were noted in the first shipment of cases that were sold here in the US and maybe Autolinea will correct these issues very soon. In short, the strength of the aluminum case is not worth the chance you take that maybe you will get one that you can use, out of the box. Now if these problems were not present, I would certainly use one over the stock Magnesium case.
