<x-charset iso-8859-1>Hi all, I know we have had a few threads with similar symptoms recently, but as this is the first time I have experienced these problems I hope you'll bear with me. I took my car for another experimental spin round the block today. Twice, at the same place, probably because it is a slight upward incline, I suddenly experienced a loss of power and an ominous popping noise from the rear. When I gave it more gas it seemed to straighten out, in fact it almost seemed to shoot forward and accelerate rapidly. Should I assume first of all that this is an ignition problem and try changing the distributor cap and rotor, and the spark plugs? All of these are the originals that I got with the car. Failing this I suppose I should look at the fuel system and lastly other stuff. My assumption is that if it was a "mechanical" problem inside the engine - valves or whatever - I would get it all the time and not just sometimes. the car can idle merrily for hours on end, and starts quite readily. I adjusted the timing quite recently, and this got rid of the backfiring I had been experiencing before that. Do I have this about right? BTW, up to now I have avoided removing the spark plugs because it sounds so awful to reach them. Anyone have any tips to reduce the swear-factor?
