It's really hard to know what to make of stories like this because there are so
many unknowns. Header exhausts, for example, all seem to reduce ground
clearance at the rear when going up inclines, as would be necessary to get
on/off the truck. I've caught tailpipes myself, on my own cars, and this is part
of why I went back to OE style mufflers. I don't know what to make of the
starter, however. It's hard to imagine how it could even have reached in there,
let alone moved it, assuming it was all bolted together correctly.

The aftermarket exhausts with the slide couplings are the worst for this,
because they have little or no strength against "rolling under" when they
catch; the slide couplings just swivel and under it goes.

Was the handbrake properly mounted when you dropped it off? It's fairly
common for the snap ring on one end to get lost when servicing and this can
lead to such a problem.

I think it's save to say that we're all sorry that you had a bad experience, but
we welcome you back to the list and are grateful that the damage to your
type 3 wasn't any worse than this. At least the stuff you've described didn't
involve any body damage or broken irreplacable parts.
