<x-charset windows-1252>Yeah, it is a bit frustrating hunting these things down. Fortunately I like turning wrenches on my cars and sort of enjoyed the challenge of finding this one. Plus it was cool to post the symptoms and pictures and get all the suggestions and ideas and encouragement. The List is the best! The resistor end is the large bakelite and rubber end that pushes onto the spark plug. It is supposed to have a 1000 ohm resistor built into it. You should get 0 ohms (or very close to it) on a length of copper wire. You get infinite ohms or resistance on an open circuit. I brought in the bad resistor end and sectioned it on a disc sander here at work. There is a copper bit that takes the spark plug end and another copper bit that screws into the end of the spark plug wire. These are connected by (this is what I am guessing is the resistor?) what looks like a coil of fine wire wrapped around a non-metallic rod . The whole works is encased in the bakelite housing and there is a rubber boot on the spark plug end. I will take and post some pictures when I get home tonight. It looks to my untrained eye that the fine wire has burned out the 25% or so of it length furthest from the spark plug. This is what caused my open condition. Not sure how it could have been intermittent, but..... Watch for the pictures this evening.
