I try to check these at every tuneup and whenever I get a car that is running rough. To date, I've never found that replacing one made any difference, even though the resistance was infinite. I have assumed that the insulator tracked inside, where the resistor used to be and that this track was an adequate path for the spark when the high voltage came along. I replace them when they're bad, however, on the assumption that they will eventually give trouble. I think you've now proven that conjecture. Was this a Bosch connector? Any chance that the metal at either end was loose and could have moved around, makeing things change? I've never seen this, but I wonder if it could happen. It's interesting to file or belt sand thru the side of the connector to see exactly what's inside there. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
