They were 40mm, like Dave said. They were machined from the same 
casting that early type 3 calipers were made from, so you really can't tell the 
difference from the outside. I have several of these which I have removed from 
type 3 over the years; braking became much more even once all 4 pistons 
were the same diameter.  ;-)
