valve spring length is new to old measurement, and, it is spring bind 
that matters.  would the spring bind before full compression?  i have 
seen 90hp 1500cc sp engines run triple springs on a stock cam and 1.4 
lifters without failure.  and yes, i said 90hp from a single pic 30 
carb'd 1500 on stock cam!
