I thought they all used double filamants: one for the parking lights and one for the turn signals. 70 and later also had an additional separate parking bulb on the side but still under the same lens.


Non-USA cars have the parking lights in the form of a small bulb inside the headlight. Turn signals are nothing more than turn signals.

Two of the reasons is that 1) the parking light must have white light. 2) the turn signal must be dark when not in use, so when the bulb blinks the light housing is dark in between the blinks for more contrast. This is per ECE regulations.
