You are correctly describing how the running (or parking) lights are wired in 
the front. L & R are on different wires and different fuses.

I thought they all used double filamants: one for the parking lights and one for 
the turn signals. 70 and later also had an additional separate parking bulb on 
the side but still under the same lens.
