I just thought I'd mention that you probably DON'T use the engine to brake by changing down a gear :-) true? Some people seem to think they are saving money by not wearing the pads when they change down a gear... it's true - the pads *don't* wear... it's the clutch, the engine and the gearbox... :-) I'd assume you are nice and smotth on the gas, so you only have to ease ff the pedal instead of hitting the gas, then the brakes, then the gas, then... anyway... I tend to avoid my brakes also. You're probably right. I really hate to waste either kinetic or potential energy, so I use brakes only as a last resort. I view unnecessary braking as akin to throwing a small handful of pennies out the window each time. Of course it also has a lot to do with driving type 3s with stock engines which require a long time to get back up to speed. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
